Foundation Engineering of Infrastructures (5cr)

Course unit code: R-6136

General information

Credits
5 cr

Objectives

The students study cases about the foundations of infrastructures, especially building on soft ground. The students study geotechnical cases about the design of regional infrastructures, infrastructural channels and network. The students study the most common cases about reinforced soils and improvement techniques.

Content

The students learn about the principles of geotechnical observations in design of land use (town plan, traffic channels, infra-networks). The students know the foundation investigation methods and their analysis, geotechnical laboratory research, making geotechnical calculations using computers especially on soft soils (settlements, stability, excavations, need of reinforcement or improvement). The students know the usable and functional reinforcement and improvement methods for soils. The students learn about the geotechnique regarding the civil engineering of rivers, lakes and seas (structures in ports, offshores, dams, erosion due from flow or waves, layers of banks).
