Objective of course:
The student:
-is able to apply the principles of nursing ethics and multicultural starting points in nursing of children, adolescents and families and apply research information in his/her work
-masters the basics of health promotion and nursing of pregnant families, women after childbirth and newborns and is able to nurse and guide families accordingly
-is able to recognize the most common abnormalities during the pregnancy and postnatal period and can redirect women to the right caring institute for further examination and treatment when needed
-is able to act appropriately in emergency deliveries
-is able to understand the growth into parenthood, being a parent in the life of children/adolescents and during children´s / adolescents´ illness as well as in health promotion
-is able to care and supervise the child / adolescent and his/her family when he/she gets sick for a short-term or long-term period of time or becomes disabled or dies and is capable of natural interaction with children/adolescents and families
-is familiar with the most important family and child-oriented assisting and supporting methods
-masters the basics of pharmacotherapy and infusion therapy of children
-recognizes the needs, resources and supporting networks of disabled, acutely or chronically ill children and their families
-is able to cooperate with the child's family and with the multiprofessional health care team

Course contents
-marital relationship, family, family planning, growth of parenthood
-pregnancy, delivery, postnatal period
-nursing of families during the pregnancy, delivery and postnatal period
-nursing of healthy newborns and assistance in emergency deliveries
-growth and development of children and adolescents, daily care and playing
-follow-up and evaluation of the wellbeing of children and adolescents
-supervision methods and cooperation with children and adolescents, interaction
-death of children or adolescents in families
-the meaning of illness to the child himself/herself and to his/her family and its effect on the daily life
-nursing of sick or handicapped children or adolescents; key nursing methods, preparation to examinations and treatments, pain relief methods
-pharmacotherapy and infusion of children
-the most common paediatric diseases
-social services, rehabilitation, voluntary organisations

Teaching methods
Lectures, tutorials, small group work, orientation to clinical training, participation of children, adolescents and families in the teaching, clinical training, study visit, seminar, virtual study, assignments, clinic activity, domestic and international projects

Assessment methods
Examinations and assignments, self-evaluation, peer review, skills test, teacher's and supervisor's oral and written evaluation

Prerequisites
First-year professional studies,
Before entering the second year studies 50 credits of first year studies should be completed. These 50 credits should include 3 credits of pharmacology treatment and medical calculation.
