Objectives

The students know the types of paper and paperboard, their characteristics and how the raw-materials and processes affect them. The students know the product analysis and end-uses of different types. The students know the life cycle analysis of paper and paperboard. The course strengthens the students’ professional development.

Content

Papers: printing and writing papers, packing and speciality papers, hygiene tissue. Paperboards: cartonboard and fibreboard, other paperboards. New paper and paperboard products, for example intelligent papers. Structure, basic properties, surface properties, absorption properties, optical and strength properties, usage and special characteristics of paperboard. Life cycle and product analysis of paper and paper board.
