Objectives

The students know the economical and biological reasons behind forest regeneration and can apply them in practical operations. The students know forest regeneration methods. Student knows influence of regeneration methods to logging operations. Students can analyse the conditions of the stand and the site and based on that information can choose the appropriate regeneration method. The students are aware of the influences which forest regeneration can have on watercourses and species and can take them into consideration while planning and realising forest regeneration. The students can make a forest regeneration plan. The students can evaluate the result of forest regeneration. The students can plant seedlings and sow seeds. The students know the most important pests and disesases which are typical on regeneration areas and to take them into consideration.

Content

Regeneration maturity, operational chain of natural forest regeneration and artificial regeneration, basics of forest tree breeding, seed procurement and seedling production, site preparation methods, prescribed burning, afforestation of agricultural land, planting and sowing in practice, maintenance of forest regeneration equipment, pests and diseases on regeneration areas and young seedling stands, preparing a regeneration plan, assessing the quality of regeneration. Basics of statistics.
