Students
-gain basic knowledge of the origin and development of popular music and Afro-American music from the turn of the 19th century colonial United Stated to the 21st century
-can place the music they hear both stylistically and temporally at the appropriate point of this trajectory
-get an idea of the effects of Afro-American music on Finnish music
-are encouraged to study the popular music infrastructure widely and to value its phenomena
