Objectives

Opiskelija osaa ylläpitää, kehittää ja arvioida kielitaitoaan ja kielenoppimisen taitojaan. Hän osaa toimia suullisesti ja kirjallisesti vierasta kieltä käyttäen ravintola- ja hotellialan monikulttuurisissa työympäristöissä. Hän ymmärtää, että vieras kieli on avain kansainvälisyyteen ja kansainvälisille työmarkkinoille sekä tiedonhankintaan. Opiskelija osaa hakea omalla alallaan tarvitsemaansa tietoa eri lähteistä, ymmärtää ja tulkitsee sitä. Hän ymmärtää vieraan kielen taidon osana kulttuurienvälistä viestintää ja osana ihmisen sivistymistä

The student
-can maintain, develop and evaluate his/her knowledge of the language and language learning skills
-can manage in various multicultural working environments demanding field-specific written and oral skills in English
- understands that the English language is a key to internationality and international labour markets as well as information search
- can search for information needed in his/her professional field from different sources, understands and interprets the information
- understands that foreign language skills are part of intercultural communication and human education

Course contents
Getting acquainted with the vocabulary needed in hotel and restaurant environment by means of texts and exercises of different types

Teaching methods
Contact teaching based on authentic, communicative, experiential and cooperative methods and independent studying

Assessment methods
Active participation in the planning of one's own learning and work forms of the course, written and oral tasks and self-evaluation. Examination and/or a language portfolio composed during the course

Prerequisites
General upper secondary school syllabus (A-level) or an equivalent level (the competence level B1.2-B2.1, CEF*)
