Objectives

Goals:
After completing this course, you will be able to:
1. understand and tell dates and locations.
2. use past tense and adjectives.
3. read and write hiragana, katakana better, and know some kanji characters.
4. be familiar with Japanese basic culture and way of life.

Content

Contents:
- pronunciation practice
- introduction and practice of basic grammar
- vocabulary building
- learning expressions used in daily situations: dates, location, suggestions etc.
- getting to know Japanese culture and way of life

Prerequisites

Previous study experience: Elementary Japanese (40 hours of contact teaching) or equivalent skills (Hiragana& katakana, masu forms are studied)

Genki I (second edition)
Exams: hiragana tests and final exam
Evaluations: Grade 0-5
80% of attendance is required to pass the course.
Evaluation will be made based on the assessment of students’ language skill, active participation, classroom work, homework completion, and exams.
