Objectives
The students recognise the strength and transformation properties of wood. They know how the most common wood structures work and how they are measured for different forms of strain. The students learn the various wood structure joints.
The students gain an overview on what happens during the construction process of a steel frame building, starting from the building decision and ending with the handing over the finished building. The students understand how various structure options work and can brace the most common steel structures. The students know the steel products on the markets as well as the corrosion prevention and fire protection methods. The students are familiar with the stages of shop fabrication and structure installation.
Content
Strength of wood and other classifications. Beams. Columns. Plate and other stiffeners. Measuring a nailed joint.
Design principles for steel. Stiffening structures. Joint types. Measuring principles. Finishing. Fire protection methods. Production. Installation.

Students will be able to use the basics of the course and solve simple applications that are similar to the tasks being handled.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
In addition to the above, the student can apply the course units to different situations and can justify the solutions.
