Objectives

This is the first part of teaching and facilitation practice.
During the teaching and facilitation practice the teacher students maintain and develop their own strengths and recognise the areas which require improvement as teachers and facilitators. The practice utilises the theoretical viewpoints for teaching and facilitation covered during teacher education. A teacher’s work consists of teaching and facilitation as well as meeting diverse types of learners. Teaching and facilitation practice consists of planning, implementing, facilitating and assesment and evaluation of teaching.

Teacher student
- sets learning objectives, designs and implements a course as defined in the curriculum and evaluates how the objectives were met
- designs, implements, facilitates and evaluates the processes which support the learning of individual students and student groups
- gives constructive feedback to other teacher students about the design and implementation of teaching
- constructs and develops various learning environments and learning
paths in collaboration with the students
- follows teachers’ ethical principles in all their teaching and facilitation and interaction with students and colleagues
- evaluates their own interaction skills and reflects on the matters which help them to recognise their own strengths and areas for development
as teachers and facilitators

How does a teacher implement participatory pedagogy?
What are reflective, exploratory, developing and entrepreneurial
teaching and facilitation?
How does a teacher recognise the teaching methods which suit different
learning situations and the teacher’s own personality and are able to
implement and develop them?
What types of teaching and evaluation methods can promote the
students’ self-direction, initiative and taking responsibility of their
own professional growth?
How does a teacher apply various forms of assessment?

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass: Teacher student
- combines theoretical data with their own experiences and observations while evaluating how the operation and learning environments and practices contribute to learning
- reflects their observations, actions and experiences and evaluates their significance to their own competences and knowledge
- participates actively in the group learning process by sharing expertise, searching for information and collaboratively creating knowledge at online and at face to face
- analyzes and evaluates their learning results and choices made
- uses different communication and teaching and facilitation methods and tools and evaluates them from a pedagogical perspective

Fail: Teacher student
- describes theoretical knowledge and experiential knowledge and observations separately
- discussion is shallow, presents disconnected facts and/or paraphrases literature
- does not participate in the group processes actively and/or has not submitted the learning tasks according to instructions
- knows only the most common communication methods
- uses only traditional teaching methods
- violates teacher's code of ethic
