Objectives

In this course, students apply and deepen their knowledge gained from other study modules within the degree program as part of a multidisciplinary project team that collectively coordinates their own design documents. Upon completion of the course, students will:

• be able to define the various stages of HVAC design process and the principles of drafting related design documents.
• deepen their knowledge of HVAC engineering through applied design projects and produce the necessary design documents for facility-specific projects.
• know how to search for solutions to encountered challenges or skill needs using various information sources.
• work projectively as part of a multidisciplinary design team and evaluate their own work.
• collaborate with other design entities.
• consider maintenance aspects of building systems both in the design and implementation phases.

Content

• Project management, scheduling, and monitoring.
• Preparation of design and implementation documents for building HVAC systems.
• Collaboration within the project team, timely acquisition and sharing of information.
• Coordination of design.
• Task list for building technology.
• Flowchart of the design process, recording of needs and initial data, document list, contents of preliminary and implementation designs, approval procedures at different stages.
• Multidisciplinary collaboration with other technical disciplines.

Prerequisites

Documentation of HVAC Systems or equivalent knowledge
Building Information and Energy Model or equivalent knowledge
Air Conditioning 2 and Noise Control or equivalent knowledge
Heating and Cooling Technology Applications or equivalent knowledge

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student is mostly capable of dimensioning and designing HVAC systems for commercial properties, but the solutions are schematic and partly incomplete. The student generally completes the assigned tasks according to the agreed schedule.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student is capable of dimensioning and designing HVAC systems for a typical commercial property. The student documents their work within the agreed schedule, utilizing design tools extensively. They work collaboratively and responsibly. The student can investigate the role of HVAC systems in meeting energy efficiency requirements. They are able to consider cost-effectiveness as part of the design process.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student can justify and independently gather information to dimension and design HVAC systems for a commercial property as part of the building services engineering, collaborating with other professionals. The student actively promotes cooperation and responsibly develops as a member of the group. They can investigate the role of HVAC systems in meeting energy efficiency requirements. Furthermore, the student considers and efficiently investigates the procurement and operating costs of HVAC systems.
