Objectives
This course covers the fundamental principles and requirements of the implementation phase of HVAC systems. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
• Determine adequate personnel resources based on the nature and schedule of the project.
• Identify, describe, and supervise typical installations in plumbing, HVAC, and insulation contracts.
• Plan procurement for the project cost-effectively and timely.
• Conduct and document typical inspections during the handover phase.
• Guide and supervise safe working practices in various work environments.
• Collaborate with the main contractor and other subcontractors during the construction project.
• Consider fire safety requirements for penetrations and escape routes.
• Select suitable materials and joints for installations and systems.
Content
Different materials joining methods.
Supervision and inspection of installations and joints.
Supporting of pipes and ducts.
Penetrations and fire compartment seals.
Selection and installation of insulation.
Reviewing plans for interferences and managing exceptional situations.
Safety and ergonomics at the construction site.
Organization of procurement for the project.
Determining workloads and planning workforce resources.
Inspections during the handover phase (Pressure test, sound measurements, functional test, tightness inspection, HVAC basic adjustment).
Prerequisites
Principles of HVAC Systems study modelu or equivalent knowledge
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student can identify the working methods of the most common HVAC installation techniques and understand their dependencies on other construction activities. They can create a procurement plan based on tender documentation for cost estimation. The student can outline the content of inspections conducted during the handover phase of the building and grasp their significance in the construction project.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student comprehensively identifies various HVAC installation methods, understands the interdependencies of construction activities, and can define the scheduling of different work phases as part of a construction project. They can create a procurement plan for HVAC technology. The student demonstrates knowledge of the content of inspections during the handover phase of the building, understanding their scheduling needs, and required resource allocation.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student can select and schedule installation and work methods as part of the overall construction project. They can create an HVAC procurement plan considering delivery times and integrate purchases into the construction site schedule and overall management. The student can plan and schedule HVAC handover phase activities.
