Objectives
This course provides students with the fundamentals of selecting and sizing conventional water and sanitary systems in buildings, as well as an overview of municipal water supply and sewage systems. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to:
• Design and size the water, wastewater, and stormwater systems of a typical property within the operating area of a water utility.
• Describe the principles of water and sewage systems in sparsely populated areas.
• Explain the mechanisms of fire ignition and propagation, as well as various firefighting methods, in general terms.
Content
• Municipal water supply and solutions for sparsely populated areas.
• Regulations and guidelines as the basis for the design, implementation, and operation of water and sewage systems.
• Sizing and pressure management of the property's water system.
• Safe implementation of hot water circulation piping.
• Sizing and implementation of the property's sewage network in various types of buildings.
• Grease traps and pumping stations.
• Various firefighting methods for properties.
Prerequisites
Documentation of HVAC Systems or equivalent knowledge
Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer in HVAC Systems or equivalent knowledge
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student recognizes the basics of property water and sewage planning, as well as essential components and parts related to water and sewage systems. They have a grasp of the fundamentals of water and sewage system sizing but require support in carrying out the sizing process. The student can describe the central regulations and principles governing water supply organization.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student can independently design and size conventional property water and sewage systems. They can identify essential components and parts related to water and sewage systems and can select and size them on a case-by-case basis. The student can describe the principles of water supply organization in both urban and sparsely populated areas.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student designs and documents the water and sewage systems of a residential property to an exemplary standard. They independently and smoothly size the water and sewage systems of the property. The student demonstrates a thorough understanding of the components and parts related to water and sewage systems and can independently select and size them. They have a comprehensive mastery of organizing water supply in both urban and sparsely populated areas.
