Objectives

The aim of the course is to provide students with the skills to dimension and design a safe and cost-effective electrical network for residential properties. The course offers in-depth knowledge of the sizing, measurement, protection, equipment selection, and structure of the electrical network in residential buildings. Upon completing the course, students will be able to:

• Dimension and design the electrical network of residential properties.
• Determine the procurement costs of electrical systems.
• Explore the possibilities of using local small-scale power plants and design the electrical network of the property to accommodate small-scale production.
• Understand the regulatory framework and guidance documentation governing the sizing and design of the electrical network in residential properties.

Content

Dimensioning, measurement, protection, equipment selection, and structure of the electrical network in the property.
Local small-scale power plants, electric vehicle charging systems, load control systems, and their integration into the property's electrical network.
Procurement costs of electrical systems.

Prerequisites

Fundamentals of Electrical Building Services course completed or equivalent knowledge acquired through other means.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student is familiar with the main features of the residential building's electrical network.
The student understands the basics of the sizing and design of the residential building's electrical network.

The student is familiar with the structure of a residential building's electrical network.
The student can size and design a typical residential building's electrical network.
Additionally, the student can explore the possibilities of local small power plants and design the property's electrical network to accommodate small-scale production.

The student is familiar with the structure of a residential building's electrical network.
The student can size and design a residential building's electrical network, utilizing and applying mandatory standards and guidelines extensively.
