Objectives
On this course, the student delves into the maintenance and renovation of electrical systems in existing buildings. Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
• Describe the impact of maintenance and upkeep on the lifecycle costs of a building.
• Describe decision-making and contractual practices related to property maintenance.
• Describe technical solutions for different stages of a building's lifecycle.
• Evaluate the current condition and maintenance needs of building systems.
• Develop a maintenance plan for building systems.
• Develop proposals for corrective actions related to repair construction.

Prerequisites
Prerequisites recommended are the first three academic years of the electrical building services engineering degree program or equivalent acquired knowledge.

The student can outline the significance of maintenance and upkeep as part of building services engineering, recognize maintenance and upkeep measures, and interpret related documents.
The student can identify traditional installation methods, materials, and techniques.
The student can present some solutions related to electrical systems in various renovation projects, but these are limited and partly incomplete.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student can create a standard maintenance program and conduct a condition assessment of electrical systems.
The student can generate a condition assessment report following guidelines.
The student can identify and describe traditional installation methods, materials, and techniques.
Additionally, the student can propose solutions for various renovation projects related to electrical systems, understanding their impact on the operation and lifecycle of other building services systems.
The student is familiar with the safety requirements for repair, modification, and additional work.

The student can apply the covered topics, considering the purpose and goals of the spaces when creating a maintenance and upkeep program.
They can produce a comprehensive condition assessment report and apply it as a tool for property maintenance.
The student can extensively identify and describe old installation methods, materials, and techniques.
They can independently gather and apply information to present diverse solutions for electrical system modifications in various renovation projects, understanding their impact on the operation and lifecycle of other building services systems. The student is well-versed in interpreting safety requirements for repair, modification, and additional work in diverse situations.
