Electrical Motors and Motor DrivesLaajuus (5 cr)
Code: 5T00FH24
Credits
5 op
Objectives
The student is able to
- describe the principles of operation of electric motors
- dimensioning and knowledge of the most common electric motor drives used in building services and their applications
- dimensioning and selecting the direct and controlled motor drives
- describe the main components, operation and network effects of power electronics.
- make control connections for the controlled electric motor drives and the systems
- explore the potential of drive drives
- describe system integration opportunities.
Content
Selection criteria for the most common electric motors used in building services and the operation and selection of low-voltage and power electronics equipment associated with their use. Motor selection, motor overload protection, low voltage switch components, power electronics fundamentals, controlled motor drives in building services, circuit diagrams.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
Knowledge of basic operation, usability and operation of a short circuit motor. Expertise in direct and controlled motor drive protection and basic dimenssioning.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
Knowledge of basic operation, usability and operation of a short circuit motor. Competence in direct and controlled motor drive protection and basic dimenssioning while working independently.
Knowledge of network effects of motor drives
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Deep knowledge of basic operation, usability and operation of a short circuit motor. Competence in direct and controlled motor drive protection and applied dimenssioning while working independently. Description and knowledge of the network effects of motor drives.
