Code: 5T00FH11

Credits

5 op

Objectives

The student can
- describe the infrastructure for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity and the factors affecting the cost of electricity;
- to calculate basic quantities of electricity networks and to read planning documents in the field
- describe the disturbances in the electricity grid and the methods of protection
• describe the challenges of renewable electricity generation in electricity distribution
• Explore the characteristics of different energy communities for measuring and managing electricity use
• Design intelligent solutions for real estate power control

Content

Finnish electricity supply, structure of electricity production and consumption, structural principles and basic components of electricity networks, over-voltage protection, quality of electricity. Short circuit in electricity distribution network. Basic principles of techno-economical planning and operation of electricity distribution networks. Electricity market policy and electricity pricing for consumers. Demand response concepts and power control. Energy communities.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student gives a brief description of the structural principles and design criteria of the electricity distribution network. He / she is able to find out the costs of purchasing electricity for the average consumer and the aspects related to the need for electric power.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student comprehensively describes the structural principles and dimensioning criteria of the electricity distribution network and is able to apply his knowledge.
The student compares the impact of different solutions on the consumer's electricity purchase costs and compares the effects of different control options
Student identifies needs of energy communities and variable energy system for intelligent control systems

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student describes extensively the main components of the electricity distribution network and their characteristics. Is able to calculate electrotechnical quantities for normal operation and failure situations in the electricity distribution network. The student thoroughly compares the aspects related to the costs and use of electric energy
The student develops intelligent control solutions suitable for power control.
