Objectives

During the course, you will be able to deepen your competence in special issues related to substance abuse nursing. In addition, you will strengthen your competence in nursing methods, such as therapeutic nurse-patient relationship, community care, group therapy and a motivational approach.

After completing the course, the student
• Identify mental health and substance abuse disorders and be able to assess the need for treatment using key symptom indicators and interviews.
• Manages the principles of therapeutic nurse-patient relationship in specialised services with adult and elderly clients and their families and knows the practical implementation of therapeutic nurse-patient relationship.
• Manages the principles of community care, group therapy and motivation in mental health and substance abuse nursing.
• Gain the ability to draw up and implement the client's treatment plan.
• Identify and gain the ability to act in challenging interaction situations in specialised services.
• Knows the key medicines used in serious mental health and substance abuse disorders and the principles of pharmacotherapy and is able to guide the client in the implementation of pharmacotherapy.
• Will be able to take sustainable development into account as part of mental health as a whole and their own activities.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student
• Identify mental health and substance abuse disorders and know the importance of key symptom indicators and interviews in assessing the need for treatment.
• Is familiar with the principles of care therapeutic nurse-patient relationship in specialised services with adult and elderly clients and their families.
• Is familiar with the principles of community and group therapy and motivation in mental health and substance abuse nursing.
• Knows the basics of drawing up and implementing a client's treatment plan.
• Identify challenging interaction situations in specialised services and related practices.
• Knows the key medicines used in serious mental health and substance abuse disorders and the principles of pharmacotherapy, and knows the key contents of pharmacotherapy guidance for clients.
• Recognize sustainable development as part of mental health as a whole.

The student
• Knows mental health and substance abuse disorders and is able to use key symptom indicators and interviews to assess the need for treatment.
• Knows the principles of therapeutic nurse-patient relationship in specialised services with adult and elderly clients and their families.
• Knows the principles of community and group therapy and motivation in mental health and substance abuse nursing.
• Knows the key issues related to the preparation and implementation of the client's treatment plan.
• Identify challenging interaction situations in specialised services and be able to use key operating methods.
• Knows the key medicines and principles of pharmacotherapy used in serious mental health and substance abuse disorders and knows the key contents of pharmacotherapy guidance for clients.
• Is able to take sustainable development into account as part of mental health as a whole.

The student
• Knows mental health and substance abuse disorders and is able to use various symptom indicators and interviews in assessing the need for treatment in a versatile way.
• Will be able to carry out therapeutic nurse-patient relationship in specialised services with adult and elderly clients and their families in a versatile manner.
• Knows the principles of community and group therapy and motivation in mental health and substance abuse nursing and is able to apply them in their own work.
• Is able to draw up a treatment plan and implement it in client work.
• Identify challenging interaction situations in specialised services and are able to evaluate and apply different operating methods in them.
• Knows the key medicines and principles of pharmacotherapy used in serious mental health and substance abuse disorders and is able to guide clients in pharmacotherapy in a versatile manner.
• Will be able to take sustainable development into account as part of mental health as a whole in their own work.

Psychiatry

Pass: The student
• Identify key symptoms of mental health and substance abuse disorders.
• Will be able to assess the need for treatment according to the severity of symptoms and functional limitation as part of a multiprofessional team.
• Knows the essential medicines used in mental health and substance abuse disorders and the related pharmacotherapy.
