Objectives

The student
- is able to gather equipment needed for the patient’s care and is able to check its operation and safety for use
- is able to act as a nurse in the care process of an anaesthetized patient
- is able to carry out the patient's pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy, including medication calculation, and is able to carry out various methods of patient pain management
- is able to carry out aseptic actions in patient care
- is able to maintain continuity of care both through oral reports and using manual and electronic documentation
- is able to assess the development of his/her professional skills during supervised practice and is able to identify in him/herself the need for continuous development

Content

Supervised clinical training in high dependency or intensive care units, observation rooms or similar. Six weeks.

Prerequisites

At the beginning of the elective vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. These should include the theoretical studies and orientation to practical training of the area which the student has chosen for the elective studies, as well as courses in anatomy and physiology. Completion of the course in Perioperative Nursing.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass

The student
- acts as a nurse in the care process of anaesthetised patients, including preparation, implementation and evaluation of care
- masters the patient's pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy, including medication calcualtion, and is able to implement patient's various pain management methods
- acts aseptically in the care of the patient
- maintains the continuity of care, both through oral reports and using manual and electronic documentation
- assesses his/her own professional development during the supervised practice and recognises in him/herself the need for continuous development


Fail
- is not able to act as a nurse at different phases of the care process of an anaesthetised patient
- is unable to observe and care for an anaesthetised patient by collecting information on the patient's physiological condition, analysing the information collected and drawing conclusions for the patient's care
- lacks expertise in pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy
- lack s expertise in pain management
- is not able to act as a nurse in the patient's postoperative care
- is not able to perform aseptic care of the patient
- is not able to maintain continuity of care, both through oral reports and using manual and electronic documentation
- is not able to work as a team member or evaluate his/her own professional development during the course
- is not able to receive feedback or change his/her activities based on the feedback
