Objectives

The student
- is able, under supervision, to assess the needs for nursing care; to plan, implement and assess for patients of different ages in a client- and family-centered and health promoting manner, and learns about structured documentation
- has experience in a patient's holistic care path, including discharge and planning for continuity of care
- relates to the patient, his / her significant others and members of the work community in a meaningful and respectful way and is able to create and maintain a professional interaction with the patient
- is able to apply the essential nursing knowledge and skills which are necessary in the care environment
- is able to implement ethically high-quality, patient-safe nursing based on evidence
- masters the principles of infection control and works aseptically
- is able to safely manage the patient's medication and fluid therapy under supervision
- is able to observe the vital signs of the patient and learns to practice the related decision-making

Content

- holistic nursing care
- supervised clinical training 4 weeks

When choosing placements for nursing practical training 1-5, different areas of nursing will be taken into account. Internships to develop the skills necesary for somatic, mental health and substance abuse care will be performed in primary health care, specialized medical care, on a ward and in open health care.

Prerequisites

Supervised Clinical Trainings 1, 2. 3 and 4 completed.
After the student has participated in both theoretical nursing studies and the orientation to clinical training courses involving his / her chosen area of specialization, he/she can go to the supervised practical training.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass
The student
- has the basic knowledge of nursing and deepens the specific knowledge of the specialised area; recognizes his/her deficiencies in knowledge and actively seeks information
- perceives the patient's care path in the specialised area.
- knows the essential clinical skills of nursing
- has mastered the principles of infection control and can operate aseptically
- is able to safely carry out the patient's drug and fluid therapy
- is able to observe the basic vital signs of the patient and to learn the related decision-making
- can meet the patient, his / her significant others and members of the work community in a meaningful and respectful way and is able to create and maintain a professional interaction with them
- is able to plan, implement and assess the client-centred care of his/her own patient
- considers the health promotion aspect of patient care
- performs guidance of different age patients and is able to use different guidance methods
- improves patient safety at all stages of the care process
- works responsibly and recognises the limits of his/her competence
- complies with the confidentiality and data protection guidelines
- adheres to the agreed rules of the supervised practice in his/her activities
- realistically examines and evaluates his/her own activities, and is able to give and receive feedback

Fail:
- there are obvious shortcomings in the basic knowledge and skills of the substance area, and finding and utilizing the data is incomplete - there are misunderstandings in the theoretical knowledge even after counseling discussions

- does not know the essential clinical skills even when being supervised
- does not know the principles of infection control and fails to work aseptically
- makes mistakes in the patient's medication and fluid therapy despite being guided, has not completed a medical treatment passport
- is not able to monitor the patient's vital signs and condition and does not control the decision-making related to them
- is unable to adequately plan, implement and assess the care
- lacks an understanding of the professional encounter: treats patients, their significant others and members of the work community inappropriately or disrespectively and is unable to interact with them

- supervised clinical training 4 weeks

When choosing placements for nursing practical training 1-5, different areas of nursing will be taken into account. Internships to develop the skills necesary for somatic, mental health and substance abuse care will be performed in primary health care, specialized medical care, on a ward and in open health care.

Prerequisites (course unit)

Supervised Clinical Trainings 1, 2. 3 and 4 completed.
After the student has participated in both theoretical nursing studies and the orientation to clinical training courses involving his / her chosen area of specialization, he/she can go to the supervised practical training.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Pass
The student
- has the basic knowledge of nursing and deepens the specific knowledge of the specialised area; recognizes his/her deficiencies in knowledge and actively seeks information
- perceives the patient's care path in the specialised area.
- knows the essential clinical skills of nursing
- has mastered the principles of infection control and can operate aseptically
- is able to safely carry out the patient's drug and fluid therapy
- is able to observe the basic vital signs of the patient and to learn the related decision-making
- can meet the patient, his / her significant others and members of the work community in a meaningful and respectful way and is able to create and maintain a professional interaction with them
- is able to plan, implement and assess the client-centred care of his/her own patient
- considers the health promotion aspect of patient care
- performs guidance of different age patients and is able to use different guidance methods
- improves patient safety at all stages of the care process
- works responsibly and recognises the limits of his/her competence
- complies with the confidentiality and data protection guidelines
- adheres to the agreed rules of the supervised practice in his/her activities
- realistically examines and evaluates his/her own activities, and is able to give and receive feedback

Fail:
- there are obvious shortcomings in the basic knowledge and skills of the substance area, and finding and utilizing the data is incomplete - there are misunderstandings in the theoretical knowledge even after counseling discussions
The student
- does not perceive the patient's care path
- does not know the essential clinical skills even when being supervised
- does not know the principles of infection control and fails to work aseptically
- makes mistakes in the patient's medication and fluid therapy despite being guided, has not completed a medical treatment passport
- is not able to monitor the patient's vital signs and condition and does not control the decision-making related to them
- is unable to adequately plan, implement and assess the care
- lacks an understanding of the professional encounter: treats patients, their significant others and members of the work community inappropriately or disrespectively and is unable to interact with them
- does not show interest in guiding the patient or his / her significant others
- violates professional confidentiality or
data protection regulations
- does not recognize the limits of his/her knowledge, endangers patient safety
- fails to comply with agreed rules for supervised practice (e.g., does not take responsibility for his/her own learning; goals are missing, does not follow working hours, does not report absences, working hours of the practice are not met).
- evaluates hi/her own skills unrealistically and is unable to receive feedback
