Objectives
The student
- knows the theoretical basics of anaesthesia and various anaesthetic methods
- knows the basic principles of anaesthesia to be performed outside the operating room
- demonstrates mastery of the key knowledge involving the observation and care of an anaesthetised surgical patient’s care process in different action environments
- knows the basics of aseptic activities in patient care
- demonstrates mastery of pharmacotherapy and medication calculations for anesthesia care
- is responsible for the theoretical development of his/her own expertise
- is able to receive collegial feedback on his/her own actions as a member of the group
- understands the importance of teamwork in nursing care for an anaesthetised patient
- is able to work ethically and safely in an anaesthetised patient’s nursing care using evidence-based practice
Content
- patient safety in anaesthesia nursing care
- nursing care of an anaesthetised patient during the surgical process and in different action environments
- the actions related to the monitoring of anaesthetised patients and the safeguarding procedures
- nursing care of an anaesthetised patient in anaesthesia and examinations outside the operating room
- nursing care in the recovery room and in the high dependency unit
- various transmission situations associated with the care of anaesthetised patients
Prerequisites
At the beginning of the elective vocational studies, the student must have completed 135 credits. These include theoretical studies and orientation to practical training in the area which the student has chosen for elective studies as well courses in anatomy and physiology. The required studies are to be completed before beginning the elective studies in perioperative nursing.

The student

- knows the basic principles of anaesthesia to be performed outside the operating room
- possesses the key knowledge about observation and care of anaesthetised patients in the care process of the surgical patient and in the various action environments
- understands the responsibility of the anaesthetic nurse in the nursing care for the anaesthetised patient
- has mastered pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy of an anaesthetised patient and knows medication calculations
- knows the aseptic aspects of care of anaesthetised patients
- takes responsibility for his/her own learning
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student

has in-depth theoretical knowledge of anaesthesiology and various anaesthetic methods
- knows the basic principles of anaesthesia performed outside the operating room
- demonstrates mastery and is able to apply key knowledge during observation and treatment of the anaesthetised surgical patient care and in different action environments
- knows aseptic actions in the patient care
- has mastered the pharmacotherapy and knows the medication calculation for anaesthetic nursing care
- takes responsibility for the theoretical development of his/her own competence
- is able to receive collegial feedback on his/her own actions as a member of the group and also provides constructive feedback
- has in-depth understanding of the importance of teamwork in the nursing of an anesthetized patient
- is able to work ethically and safely in evidence-based nursing care of an anaesthetised patient
- is able to act ethically and safely in the nursing care of an anaesthetised patient using evidence-based knowledge
