Objectives
The aim of this course is to deepen the student's paramedical skills to the level required for advanced paramedical care.
After completing the course, the student will be able to:
• Act in accordance with the rights, duties, and responsibilities of a paramedic at the care level, following treatment guidelines and ethical principles of paramedicine, while considering the principles of sustainable development
• Ensure patient and occupational safety independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team, including anticipation and action in potential threat and violence situations
• Provide comprehensive care for emergency patients, taking into account the significance of genomic information
• Plan follow-up care for non-urgent emergency patients and provide guidance for patients not requiring transportation, as well as for their families and stakeholders
• Document and report paramedical care during the emergency phase in a structured and patient-centered manner
Content
• Specific requirements for paramedical care, including technical and non-technical skills
• Principles of teamwork
• Patient and occupational safety perspectives, including preparation for and actions in threat and violence situations
• Assessment of acutely ill or injured patients and paramedical care at the care level, considering genomic information
• Comprehensive assessment of the care needs of non-urgent emergency patients
• Guidance for patients, families, and other healthcare professionals involved in care, including situations where transportation is not required
• Perspectives on sustainable development and solutions in the work of a paramedic
• Documentation, reporting, requesting and implementing legal treatment guidelines at the care level
Prerequisites
At the beginning of Advanced Level Emergency Care studies, the student must have completed 140 credits of studies. These should include studies in Anatomy and Physiology, The Basic Level Emergency Care skills and Supervised Clinical Trainings 1-4.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student:
• Knows the rights, duties, and responsibilities of a paramedic at the care level, as well as ethical principles
• Acts in compliance with patient and occupational safety and has basic knowledge of preparing for and responding to threat and violence situations
• Understands the basic principles of providing comprehensive care to emergency patients, including the significance of genomic information
• Knows how to plan follow-up care for non-urgent patients
• Knows the fundamental principles of guiding patients, their families, and stakeholders related to care, including situations where transportation is not required
• Understands how to document and report paramedical care during the emergency phase
• Understands how to work systematically and organize activities to find and implement solutions that promote sustainable development
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student:
• Can comprehend and apply the rights, duties, and responsibilities of a paramedic at the care level, as well as ethical principles
• Acts proactively in compliance with patient and occupational safety, knowing the procedures for preparing for and responding to threat and violence situations
• Can provide comprehensive care to emergency patients, considering the significance of genomic information
• Can plan follow-up care for non-urgent patients
• Can guide patients, families, and stakeholders in care, including situations where transportation is not required
• Can document and report paramedical care during the emergency phase systematically
• Can work in a goal-oriented manner and organize activities to find and implement solutions that promote sustainable development
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student:
• Can analyze the rights, duties, and responsibilities of a paramedic at the care level, as well as ethical principles
• Acts proactively and analytically in compliance with patient and occupational safety and can apply procedures for preparing for and responding to threat and violence situations
• Can provide comprehensive care to emergency patients, analyzing the significance of genomic information
• Can individually tailor plans for follow-up care for non-urgent patients
• Can provide guidance to patients, families, and stakeholders in care in an applied manner, including situations where transportation is not required
• Analytically documents and reports paramedical care during the emergency phase
• Works in a goal-oriented manner and is motivated to find and implement solutions that promote sustainable development
