Objectives

The Course provides the skills to work in acute care work

After completing the course, the student
• is able to observe, evaluate, and support the basic vital functions of acutely ill or injured patient in different acute care environments
• is able to care for acutely ill or injured patient based on evidence in different acute care environments
• is able to support a patient and his/her family in a crisis caused by a sudden illness or disability
• is able to ensure patient safety and to act ethically
• is able to work in a multidisciplinary team
• is able to reflect on and develop his/her own work and that of the work community

Supervised clinical training in different acute care environments.

Prerequisites

Participation in course on Acute Nursing Care

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

Pass:
The student
• is able, under supervision, to monitor, evaluate, and support the basic vital functions of acutely ill or injured patient
• performs nursing care of acutely ill or injured patient but is not always able to explain his or her activities
• is able, under supervision, to support the patient and his/her family in a crisis caused by a sudden illness or injury
• takes responsibility for his/her own learning
• is able, under supervision, to ensure patient safety, and can identify ethical principles
• is able to act as a member of a multidisciplinary work group


Fail:
The student
• is not able to monitor, evaluate, or support the acutely ill or injured patient's basic vital functions
• does not perform the nursing care of acutely ill or injured patient even under supervision
• is not able to support a patient and his/her family in a crisis caused by a sudden illness or injury
• does not take responsibility for his/her own learning and cannot reflect on his/her own activities
• has difficulties in ensuring patient safety and following ethical principles
• is not able to work properly as a member of a multidisciplinary team
