Objectives
The student
- is able to apply medical and other scientific knowledge in emergency care
- knows the most common sudden illnesses, worsening of the condition and injuries of the patient which require urgent care and transport to the hospital and knows how to care for them outside and during the journey to hospital
- knows the therapeutic and other significant effects of most common medications used in emergency care e.g., therapeutic, other significant effects, action mechanisms, side effects and interactions with other drugs of most common emergency medications
- knows the special features of medication and iv-fluids
- knows the anaesthesia methods and medications used in emergency care.

Prerequisites
At the beginning of Advanced Level Emergency Care studies, the student must have completed 135 credits of studies. These should include The Basic Level Emergency Care Skills, as well as studies in Anatomy and Physiology.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student
- knows the basics of medical and other scientific knowledge and identifies evidence-based knowledge in the treatment of an injured or suddenly ill patient
- is able to assess the patient's condition and need for care and to plan and implement his / her care, but is not always able to give detailed explanations for his / her actions
- is able to carry out the patient's medication and fluid therapy, and in general masters the anaesthetic methods and medications used in emergency care
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student
- masters the knowledge of medicine and other scientific information and is able to apply evidence-based knowledge to care for an injured or suddenly ill patient
- is able to assess the patient's condition and need for treatment, to plan his / her care and to implement the care, and is also able to explain his / her activities in detail
- is able to carry out the patient's medication and fluid therapy and masters the anaesthetic methods and medications used in emergency care
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student
- is able to apply and explain in detail his/her activities in the emergency care from the point of view of medical and other scientific knowledge and is able to apply evidence-based knowledge in the treatment of an injured or suddenly ill patient
- is able to assess the patient's condition and need for treatment, plan the patient’s care and carry out the treatment appropriately and with detailed explanations
- is able to perform the patient's medication and fluid therapy and masters the anaesthetic methods and medication used in emergency care; is able to explain the actions in detail
