Objectives
In the study course, the students learn about the different procurement sources of Finnish wood procurement, the different levels of procurement planning and the importance of different levels of plans in the control of wood procurement.
After completing the course, the student:
• is familiar with the operational phases of timber procurement, their interdependencies, as well as recent developments and new emphases in each phase due to ongoing development work.
• can create operational plans for timber procurement and utilize information from other planning levels when creating these plans.
• can create a bucking file and test its functionality.
• knows the various procurement sources in Finnish timber procurement, different levels of procurement planning, and understands the significance of plans at various levels in timber procurement control
• understands the importance of monitoring and measuring operations in the timber procurement chain and can apply metrics in operational control and change management.
• understands the possibilities of digitalization in timber procurement.
Content
Operational phases of timber procurement and their functioning. Recent developments in timber procurement. Digital forest management systems, GIS, E-commerce platforms etc. in the forest sector. Operational plans for timber procurement. Creating and testing bucking files. Procurement sources and their characteristics, different levels of timber procurement planning, formation of timber procurement goals, operation metrics, and their principles.

- knows the stages of Finnish wood procurement and their essential characteristics

- can make plans for different stages of wood procurement
- knows how wood procurement objectives are formed

The student:
- knows the phases of Finnish wood procurement and their characteristics, as well as the challenges that cause the need for guidance
- can create and test bucking files
-is able to make plans for the various stages of wood procurement and use the gauges to assess their usefulness.
- knows how wood procurement objectives are formed and from which sources wood is obtained.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student:
- knows the phases of Finnish wood procurement and their characteristics, the challenges that need to be controlled and the areas for development, as well as recent development solutions
- can create and test bucking files and understands the effects of changes on bucking
- is able to make plans for the various phases of wood procurement, measure the usability of the plans with the help of indicators and modify the plans in the event of changes.
- knows the role of different sources of supply as part of wood procurement as a whole and how different sources of supply are taken into account in setting objectives.
- is aware of the potential of digitalisation and knows its importance in the development of operations.
