Objectives

The student learns the basic principles and components characteristics of substation and power distribution network operation and automation as well as relay protection.

Content

Principles of operation of the electricity distribution network, structure and operation of automation of electricity distribution networks, principles and essential components of relay protection of substations and electricity distribution networks.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student knows the basic components of a low- and medium-voltage electricity distribution network. He/she identifies the equipment and systems of overcurrent and earth fault protection of the electricity distribution network, as well as electrical network automation.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student knows how to calculate the typical fault situations of the electricity distribution network and understands their effects on network planning and dimensioning. He/she understands the operation and automation of electricity distribution networks as a whole.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student can independently dimension and design the overcurrent and ground fault protection system of the low-voltage and medium-voltage network. He/she understands the importance of operation and automation of electricity distribution networks in terms of the optimal operation of the energy system.
