Objectives

The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the role of product development as part of the company's operations and to understand the stages of the product development process.
On completion of the course, the student will
• can acquire information in a versatile way and can critically evaluate different sources of information
• know the phases of a product development project and the product life cycle
• understand the importance of productisation and commercialisation in the development of products and services, also from a strategic point of view
• has a general knowledge of the basic principles, tools and ways of innovating products and services
• applies theory in practice

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student has a partial knowledge of the tools and basic principles of innovation. They can identify and develop product and service concepts. The student will carry out, report and present tasks in an agreed manner. The student participates to a limited extent in group activities

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student knows the tools and basic principles of innovation. The student can analyse and develop realistic product and service concepts. The student is able to perform, report and present tasks in a comprehensive and clear manner. They can draw on their own experience and source literature. Participates well in group activities

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student has an excellent knowledge of the tools and basic principles of innovation. The student is able to analyse, develop and critically evaluate realistic product and service concepts. The student is able to perform, report and present tasks with high quality, variety and clarity. Students will be able to draw on their own experience and source literature. The student demonstrates understanding of issues. The student is a very active participant in the work
