Objectives

In this course, the students will learn the application areas and basic methods of cell culture and get familiar with cleanroom as operating environment.
After completing the course, the student
• understand the key concepts, application areas and requirements of cell culture and cleanroom work
• know the basic techniques of cell culture
• know the principles of cleanroom work
• is able to work aseptically and safely in cell culture facilities and maintain cultured cell using basic cell culture methods

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can explain some of the most important principles and key concepts of cell culture and cleanroom work. The student can name some application areas of cell culture and cleanroom work. The student knows the main features of how animal cells are cultured in the laboratory and what kind of growth requirements they have. The student knows how to work aseptically and safely in cell culture and cleanrooms. The student is able to participate in maintaining and handling conventional cell cultures under supervision.

The student can explain how animal cells are cultured in the laboratory and what kind of growth requirements they have. The student is able to maintain and handle conventional cell cultures according to written instructions under guidance.

The student can comprehensively explain the concepts and principles of cell culture and cleanroom work. The student knows the key application areas of cell culture and clean room work. The student can explain how animal cells are cultivated in the laboratory and what kind of growth requirements they have. The student can explain how animal cells are cultured. The student can describe the behavior of cells in a culture, name the factors necessary for cell growth and explain their effects. The student knows how to work aseptically and safely in cell culture and cleanrooms and knows how to apply his theoretical knowledge in his work. The student can independently search for information on the topics covered. The student is able to maintain and handle conventional cell cultures mainly using written instructions.
