Objectives
The objective of this course is to familiarize students with organic chemistry work methods and various product identification techniques.
Upon completing the course, the student will be able to:
• Identify and name common organic chemistry laboratory tools and equipment and master their safe usage.
• Synthesize and isolate organic compounds following provided instructions.
• Analyze products using various methods.
• Work safely in a laboratory environment.
• Report work and results according to guidelines.
Prerequisites
Laboratory Techniques and Safety, Fundamentals of Chemistry, Basic Chemistry Work 1 and 2, Chromatography, Spectrometry, Organic Chemistry.
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student recognizes and names common organic chemistry laboratory tools and equipment and can safely use them. The student performs organic syntheses, isolations, and product confirmations with guided assistance. They prepare work reports for laboratory tasks according to instructions. The student works safely in the laboratory.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
In addition to the above, the student understands the significance of conditions in syntheses and isolations. They present analysis results with appropriate accuracy, interpret the results, and independently draw conclusions. The student structures work reports for laboratory tasks well, demonstrating a good command of the topic. They take responsibility for the smooth progress of laboratory work and can plan and schedule their work effectively.

In addition to the above, the student has comprehensive mastery of the topic. They can critically evaluate methods and sources of error. The student interprets results and assesses their reliability in a versatile and critical manner. They report results expertly, drawing on relevant literature.
