Objectives

Student learn about environmentally friendly vehicle engineering.

Student are able to:
- design and choose vehicle and power transfer main components such as shaft clutches and couplings, brakes and belt transmissions
- build larger systems using standards and manufactures catalogs and engineered components
- design components and transmissions such as engine-clutch-gearbox-wheels systems
- design vehicle combinations' pulling components, axles and air brakes

Study course includes lectures, design exercises, project work and home work.

Content

Selection and dimension of the machine elements and joints of the power transmission. Standard-based dimension. Shaft clutches and brakes. Chain and belt drives. Shaft-hub joints (profile shafts) and shaft joints (the couplings and universal joints).

Design of vehicle combinations' pulling components, driving axles and air brakes.

Prerequisites

Basic know-how of
- machine design,
- vehicle dynamics and statics of rigid bodies,
- strength of materials
Basics of finite element method is strongly recommended at least at the same time with this course.
