Objectives

The student understands the theory of the theory of strength and the mathematics used, which is the basis of the elementary method of the theory of strength.
The student knows how to form element meshes and stiffness matrices of simple rods and beams and solve the basic equation of the structure.
The student knows how to dimension the whole frame and individual structural parts of a conventional steel building with a 3D calculation program based on the finite element method.

Content

The basis of the finite element method.
Element network, element types, node sizes, node loads.
Using matrix calculus.
The solutions of the rod, beam and circumference by hand calculation.
Creating a model, determining loads, analyzing the structure and dimensioning with a calculation program.

Prerequisites

5R00GQ45 Basics of Statics , 5R00GQ46 Strength of Materials ja 5R00GR03 Structural Mechanics and Methods or equivalent knowledge.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can solve structural calculation tasks independently, related examples of which have been discussed in lessons.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

In addition to the previous one, the student is able to solve structural calculation tasks independently, which require the application of the principles of the tasks according to the discussed examples.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

In addition to the previous one, the student knows how to solve calculation tasks for structures, widely applying the principles of the tasks according to the examples.
