Objectives

The aim of the course is to familiarise students with the processes of hydrogen production and utilisation.

On completion of the course, the student will
• know the properties, transport and storage of hydrogen
• understand the main techniques used in the production of hydrogen
• be able to explain the downstream processes and products of hydrogen
• understand the main safety aspects of hydrogen production and use

Content

Hydrogen production methods, downstream processing, products and safety. The course includes a laboratory component.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student will be able to name the properties of hydrogen and the basic characteristics of hydrogen storage. The student will understand the main techniques used in the production of hydrogen and will be able to describe the downstream processes and products of hydrogen. Identify the main safety issues related to the production and use of hydrogen.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

Students will understand how to take into account the properties of hydrogen in practical applications.
The student will be able to compare hydrogen production techniques and downstream processes. The student will understand the main safety aspects of hydrogen production and use.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student understands the importance, challenges and opportunities of the hydrogen economy in a holistic way.
