Objectives
The aim of the course is to form basic knowledge on the paper board and paper manufacturing process and the end use products.
After completing the course, the student:
• knows the unit processes of paper board and paper manufacturing
• understands the effects of the manufacturing process on product quality, costs and the environment.
• knows the potential of paper board and paper production in circular economy.
Content
• Paper board and paper grades and their properties
• Production unit processes: stock preparation and refining, water circulations, broke handling, headbox, wire section, press section, drying, calendering, reeling, winding, packaging and sheeting
• The role of circular sconomy
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
Student recognizes the different paper board and paper production unit processes and the technical equipment used. Student defines the most important terms and understands the factors affecting product quality in different parts of the processes.
Student manages the assigned tasks under supervision/assisted.
Student can work in a group, recognized his/her interaction skils and takes responsibility for his/her own work.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
Student describes the production processes for different paper board and paper grades. Student compares the different devices and applications used, as well as reasons for using these. Student structures things in relation to one another.
Student cooperates constructively and responsibly in a group and is ready to develop his/her interaction skills.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
Student can analyse how different types of manufacturing processes affect the product quality, costs and environment. Student describes with arguments the optimal process for manufacturing different paper board and paper grades.
Student can search and assess diverse alternatives for the different stages of paper board and paper production process.
Student can cooperate responsibly, flexibly and constructively in a group. Student is ready to develop his/her own and the group's interaction.
