Objectives
The objective of the course is to enhance the understanding of tonal music and its central phenomena.
Upon completing the study module, the student will be able to analyze music from the tonal era, through personal performance, by listening and in written form.
Content
Melodic comprehension
• singing and writing melodies containing fundamental elements of tonal music
Harmonic comprehension
• perceiving harmony containing fundamental elements of tonal music from chord dictations and music examples
Rhythmic comprehension
• perceiving basic rhythms and irregularly divided rhythmic patterns by playing and writing
Assessment criteria, pass/fail
The student is able to complete the tasks fairly smoothly. Errors occur, but the performance still forms a coherent whole.
