Osaamistavoitteet

After completing this course, the student
- can solve problems related to chemical equilibrium, acids and bases
- understands the buffering process
- can balance redox reactions, knows the concept of galvanic- and fuel cells and electrolysis
- can calculate the energy provided by a galvanic cell and the amount of compounds produced by electrolysis
- knows the types of radioactive radiation
- understands the mechanisms of environmental pollution and knows the main inorganic and organic pollutants of air, water and soil
- knows the fundamentals of qualitative, quantitative and instrumental analysis and is familiar with volumetric- and some instrumental analytical methods
- performed the laboratory exercises (titration, preparation and testing of buffers, GC/MS, IC, AAS, microbiology)

Chemical equilibrium, acids and bases, redox processes, radioactivity, volumetric analysis, spectroscopy, chromatography, atomic absorption spectroscopy, biological water quality indicators

Can solve simple problems related to chemical equilibrium, acids, and bases. Has a basic understanding of the buffering process. Can balance simple redox reactions, has a basic understanding of the galvanic cells, fuel cells, elctrolysis and can and perform related elementary calculations. Recognizes the types of radioactive radiation. Is aware of the mechanisms of environmental pollution and knows the primary inorganic and organic pollutants of air, water, and soil. Understands the basics of qualitative, quantitative, and instrumental analysis, is familiar with volumetric and instrumental analytical methods discussed during the course.

Can balance redox reactions and has a solid understanding of the galvanic cells, fuel cells and elctrolysis. Accurately calculates the energy provided by spontaneous redox reactions and the amount of compound produced by electrolysis. Has a good understanding of the types of radioactive radiation. Comprehends the mechanisms of environmental pollution and is knowledgeable about the main inorganic and organic pollutants. Is proficient in qualitative, quantitative, and instrumental analysis, and capably applies volumetric and instrumental analytical methods in practice.
