Osaamistavoitteet

This course provides an in-depth understanding of various raw materials used in the textile industry. Students explore natural and synthetic fibres, their properties and impact on sustainability, and environmental choices of textile raw materials.
After completing the course, the student is able to
• classify and identify different textile raw materials
• describe the structure of textile fibres and their physical, chemical and biological properties
• evaluate the environmental impact of textile raw materials
• can choose appropriate textile raw material for different uses and give the reasons for the choice
• understands sustainability aspects and the circular economy concept related to textile raw materials

Definitions and classification of textile raw materials; Natural, regenerated and synthetic fibres and their sustainability aspects; Chemical and physical structure of fibre and structure-property relationship; Manufacturing processes of textile fibres; Circular economy and recycling related to textile raw materials

Arviointikriteerit, tyydyttävä (1-2)

The student is able to identify different fibres and other textile raw materials, and name their end uses and properties.
The student is able to solve simple problems that are comparable to the tasks covered in the course.
The student takes responsibility for his or her own performance.

The student is able to explain fibre structure-property relationship and select fibres for different end uses.
The student is able to apply the knowledge and perform basic and more demanding tasks.
The student takes responsibility for own performance and commits also to the activities of the group.

The student has a comprehensive understanding of fibres and their structure-property relationship and end uses.
The student is able to solve challenging and applied tasks. The student is able to look for different solution options and justify the choice.
The student is able to cooperate responsibly, flexibly and constructively.
