Objectives

Foundations of Entrepreneurship is a course that invites you to explore entrepreneurship from various perspectives. We examine entrepreneurship from a societal standpoint, from the entrepreneur's point of view, through the eyes of the customer, and from the perspective of building a business, including the fundamentals of creating a business idea.

Entrepreneurship is not something that just happens; it requires planning, ambiguous actions, experimentation, and testing, as well as conscious thinking, but above all, perseverance.

After completion the course, student
• understands the diverse phenomena of entrepreneurship
• can apply the necessary skills in entrepreneurship
• comprehend and put into practice aspects related to developing a business idea
• comprehend trends related to customer understanding
• master cost thinking
• understand the differences between entrepreneurship and wage labor.

This hands-on course is conducted entirely online, allowing for independent study.

Content

The course consists of six components, built upon curated materials and introductory texts related to the topic. Each section includes tasks with varying themes (multiple choice, essays, mind maps, etc.).

Additionally, the course may have specific sections tailored to different fields, for example, for students in the social and health care sector.

Throughout the course, various forms of entrepreneurship, the significance of entrepreneurship in Finland, the development of business ideas, finances, customers, and personal prerequisites for becoming an entrepreneur are covered.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail

The course is completed when you demonstrate a grasp of the key principles of entrepreneurship. You are able to assess your skills and motivations for future entrepreneurship. Successful completion involves fulfilling the learning tasks on the Moodle platform and familiarizing yourself with the provided materials.

On the contrary, the course will be considered unsuccessful if you haven't acquired a clear understanding of the fundamental principles of entrepreneurship, lack familiarity with the essential terminology or business forms related to the topic. Additionally, if you lack comprehension of the skills necessary for entrepreneurship and cannot evaluate your own potential as an entrepreneur, the course may be deemed unsuccessful.

This practical course is entirely conducted online, allowing self-paced study. You can start the course immediately on Moodle. There's no need to wait for approval; you can begin studying whenever you want.

The study module consists of six sections, comprised of curated materials and introductory texts on the subject. Each section contains tasks covering various themes. Additionally, there may be industry-specific sections tailored for students in fields such as social and healthcare.

This course is done completely online and independently in Moodle, and you can complete it at your own pace, at a time that suits you. You can start the course right away on Moodle. You don’t have to wait to be accepted on the course, you can start studying when you want.

In order to get the credits, you also have to sign up officially in Pakki (TAMK Students) / Cross-Institutional Service (TAU Students). Please note that during the holiday seasons there are delays in the awarding of credits.
