Objectives (course unit)

The student
- is aware of his/her own values and principles and is able to describe them in relation to the values and ethical principles of future profession in health care
- knows the basic ethical values in social and health care
- follows the ethical guidelines and principles in nursing, acts responsibly as a member of the work community and follows practice guidelines
- respects clients/patients and meets them as experts and actors of their lives
- is able to support client’s strengths and well-being
-is able to interact professionally and individually with clients/patients of all ages, cultures and with different backgrounds
- is able to meet vulnerable client groups in nursing care
- is able to act in a professional and collegial manner in the work community
- is able to recognise health care and social services professionals’ roles and responsibilities in clients’ care
- is able to use reflection and identify own strengths and developmental challenges in professional interaction

Content (course unit)

- professional interaction and ethical competence
- nursing care values, principles and professional ethical guidelines, confidentiality, responsibility in nurse’s profession
- various concepts of human being, autonomy, self-determination, respecting a human being and client-approach
- recognising ethical problems, ethical decision-making with different dimensions of action
- identifying and evaluating own interpersonal skills
- using different methods and tools in interaction
- professional activity in the work community, collegiality and professional co-operation skills of the employee
- professional interaction with clients and their families , professional interaction also with minor clients
- acting professionally on social media
- multicultural clients and vulnerable client groups

Pass:
The student

preparatory work for the mandatory seminar 24.11.2022
and for Nallesairaala, and active attendance to Nallesairaala, Spirit innovation festival, presentation seminar 24.11.2022, and holistic care days.
