Supervised Clinical Training 3: Basic Level Emergency Care (6 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

The student
- meets with the emergency care patient, his/her significant others and members of the work community in an appropriate and respectful way
- is able to use and maintain the equipment for transfer and care of the emergency patient
- is able to work ergonomically, aseptically and safely
- is able to determine the most important care that the emergency care patient needs
- is able to observe the basic vital functions of the emergency care patient and learns to make the related decisions.
- gains experience in documentation and communication in the public health care network
- adheres to ethical guidelines and principles of emergency care, acts as a responsible member of the working group and follows the guidelines of the practice
- is able to evaluate his/her own skills and develop into a paramedic realistically

50 ects of first year studies completed, including Pharmacotherapy and Medical Calculations.
Participation in courses on Medical Nursing, Surgical Nuring, Orientation to Clinical Training: Medical Nursing and Orientation to Clinical Training: Surgical Nursing
Participation in courses on Basic Level Emergency Care and Orientation to Clinical Training: Basic Level Emergency Care

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Pass
The student
- has the basic knowledge about emergency care
- knows the essential clinical skills for nursing care of an emergency care patient
- masters the use and maintenance the equipment of basic transfer and care for the emergency care patient
- is able, under supervision, to safely carry out the pharmacotherapy and fluid therapy
- is able to observe the basic vital functions of the patient and learns to make the related decisions
- meets with the patient and his/her significant others and members of the work community in an appropriate and respectful way
- is able to achieve and maintain professional interaction
- is able to work ergonomically and in accordance with occupational safety
- adheres to the confidentiality and data protection guidelines
- follows the rules of the agreed clinical practice in his/her own activities
- realistically evaluates his/her own activities, and is able to give and receive feedback

Fail
The student
- is not able to interact professionally with the care team
- has obvious deficiencies in the management or maintenance skills of the basic transfer and care for the emergency care patient
- does not manage with ergonomic, aseptic or safe working practices
- does not know the patient's basic vital functions and does not recognize changes in them
- is unable to carry out the pharmacotherapy or fluid therapy required by the emergency patient
- does not manage with the basic care procedures of the emergency care patient and is not able to document the emergency care record
- does not follow the agreed rules of supervised practical training (for example, does not take responsibility for his/her own learning; learning goals are missing; does not report absences; required hours of the course are not met)
- evaluates his/her own skills unrealistically and is unable to receive feedback

Ohjattu käytännön harjoittelu sairaalan ulkopuolisen ensihoidon toimipisteissä.

Student workload

6 op/harjoittelu = 162 h. Tästä vähennetään orientaatiotunnit, reflektiotunnit ja mahdollinen kirjallinen tehtävä. Opiskelija suorittaa siis 153 h/ 4 vkon harjoittelu.
Opiskelija voi halutessaan tehdä enemmänkin tunteja, edellyttäen ettei tämä lisää Tamkin maksamaa opiskelijanohjauskorvausta. Näissä tilanteissa on neuvoteltava etukäteen ohjaavan opettajan kanssa.

Practical training and working life cooperation

Opiskelija on tiiviissä yhteistyössä ohjaavan opettajan ja työelämän edustajan kanssa. Kaiken viestiliikenteen sähköpostitse tulee sisältää kaikki ym. toimijat.
Epäselvissä tilanteissa opiskelijalla on oikeus olla yhteydessä opettajaansa ilman työelämän edustajan läsnäoloa.

Opiskelija:
- toimittaa viimeistään toisen harjoitteluviikon alussa tavoitteensa ja työvuorotaulukon ohjaavalle opettajalle s-postitse
- tekee väliarvioinnista lyhyen yhteenvedon, jonka toimittaa opettajalle s-postitse
- palauttaa harjoittelun lopussa allekirjoitetut työvuorotaulukot ja Tamkin arviointilomakkeen opettajalle s-postitse
- lisäksi opiskelija palauttaa kirjallisen reflektion harjoittelussa niin ikään s-postitse ohjaavalle opettajalle

Hylätty: toistuvat poissaolot/myöhästymiset harjoittelusta. Ohjaajilta saatu hylkäävä palaute. Potilasturvallisuutta vaarantava toiminta. Tehtävien tekemättä jättäminen huomautuksesta huolimatta.
