Traffic Channels MaintenanceLaajuus (3 cr)

Objectives

The students learn the basics of different kinds of pavements and road maintenance. They understand the connection of the management between summer, winter and especially spring (pot-hole period) and cover maintenance’s importance to traffic safety. They understand the lifetime model thinking in maintenance.

Content

Quality and responsibility of maintenance both in winter (snow removal, prevention of slippery surfaces, surface trimming, traffic safety, work safety) and in summer (lightness, ruts, marks on the asphalt surfaces, damages). The management during the pot-hole period: damage repairs, thawing and soft structures, traffic limits, methods to improve the bearing capacity during the spring (stabilations, reinforcements by using steelnets). The cases of maintenance: road/pavement care, drainage, lightning, traffic signs, lights and other signals, safety systems, other structures and instruments effecting to road-handling, environment care.
