Objectives
In this course, students learn to apply medical knowledge in adult and pediatric prehospital emergency care.
Upon completing the course, the student will:
• Have knowledge of the medical fundamentals in the prehospital care of injured and ill patients.
• Be proficient in the anesthesia methods used in prehospital care, as well as the specific aspects of medication and fluid therapy for adult and pediatric patients.
• Recognize gynecological and pregnancy-related emergency situations and be able to manage deliveries outside of a hospital setting.
• Be able to interpret electrocardiograms (ECGs) and identify abnormal findings in ECGs as a basis for clinical diagnosis.
Content
• Advanced instruction in prehospital emergency medicine specialties
Prerequisites
At the beginning of Advanced Level Emergency Care studies, the student must have completed 120 credits of studies. These should include studies in Anatomy and Physiology, The Basic Level Emergency Care skills and Supervised Clinical Trainings 1-4
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)
The student:
• Understands the key medical fundamentals in the prehospital care of injured and ill patients.
• Has a basic understanding of anesthesia methods used in prehospital care and can identify specific aspects of medication and fluid therapy for adult and pediatric patients.
• Can recognize gynecological and pregnancy-related emergency situations and assist with deliveries outside of a hospital setting.
• Can interpret ECGs and identify abnormal findings in ECGs as a basis for clinical diagnosis.
Assessment criteria, good (3-4)
The student:
• Has a solid grasp of the medical fundamentals in the prehospital care of injured and ill patients.
• Has comprehensive knowledge of anesthesia methods used in prehospital care and is proficient in medication and fluid therapy for adult and pediatric patients.
• Can confidently identify and manage gynecological and pregnancy-related emergency situations, including deliveries outside of a hospital setting.
• Can interpret ECGs systematically and explain the reasons behind abnormal ECG findings, consulting a physician when necessary.
Assessment criteria, excellent (5)
The student:
• Demonstrates in-depth knowledge of the medical fundamentals in the prehospital care of injured and ill patients and can provide reasoned justifications for their actions.
• Masters anesthesia methods used in prehospital care and excels in medication and fluid therapy for adult and pediatric patients.
• Proficiently identifies and manages gynecological and pregnancy-related emergency situations, justifying their actions thoroughly, even in cases of deliveries outside of a hospital setting.
• Systematically interprets ECGs, can provide well-founded explanations for abnormal ECG findings, and can consult a physician when needed.
