Objectives

The aim of the course is to give basic skills for making database queries and maintaining a relational database.

Upon completion of the course the student:
• understands the operating principle of relational databases, the meaning of tables and columns, and their dependencies
• can make queries to the tables of a relational database
• can design and implement a simple relational database using a database program.

Content

Database concepts, conceptual modeling and modeling process, database design and implementation, database queries, database part of an information system.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student can use a database program and make simple queries to a pre-made relational database.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student can use a database program and make simple queries to a pre-made relational database. The student can join tables in queries and use some functions to analyze the results.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The student can use a database program and make simple queries to a pre-made relational database. The student can join tables in queries and use some functions to analyze the results. The student can design and implement a simple relational database using a database program.
