Objectives (course unit)
Upon completing this course, the student will be able to name and locate (in both Finnish and Latin) the following human nerves, list the muscles and skin areas they innervate, and describe the course of these nerves in relation to the joints (focusing on the structures most relevant to physiotherapy):
- Nerves of the scapular region
- Nerves of the upper limb
- Nerves of the abdomen, pelvis, anterior thigh, and medial thigh
- Nerves of the lower limb
Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)
Passed: The student demonstrates proficiency in the essential knowledge of the musculoskeletal system anatomy and achieves at least 70% correct answers in the exam.
Failed: The student's understanding of the anatomy of the musculoskeletal system is inadequate, and they scored less than 70% on the exam.
Location and time
The course is implemented 100% as an online course on Moodle during the implementation period.
Competence is demonstrated through an Exam test.
Exam schedules
You can register for the Exam test after you have received the right to study. Exam tests are taken in designated Exam rooms, which are available in multiple higher education institutions.
Each student has three attempts to pass the test during their study entitlement period. The passing threshold is 70%. If the test is not passed within three attempts, the student may re-enroll in the course.
Assessment methods and criteria
The course assessment is based on the Exam test and follows a pass/fail grading system as follows:
Pass: The student demonstrates proficiency in the key concepts of the musculoskeletal system anatomy and scores at least 70% in the Exam test.
Fail: The student's knowledge of the musculoskeletal system anatomy is insufficient, and they score less than 70% in the Exam test.
A failed Exam test can be retaken up to two times.

Pass/Fail
Teaching methods
The course is conducted entirely as a self-paced online course.
On the Moodle learning platform: Written study materials, short video lectures, independent self-assessment, and the opportunity for peer discussions.
In Exam test facilities: Course examination.
Learning materials
All Exam materials are available on the Moodle platform.
The exam materials are primarily based on three sources:
1. Hokkanen, M. & Vierimaa, H. 2019. Tuki- ja liikuntaelimistön anatomia. Opiskelukirja. Sanoma Pro Oy.
(This book is primarily used as a textual source.)
2. Drake, R. L., Vogl, A. W., & Mitchell MB BS, F. 2022. Gray’s Basic Anatomy: Gray’s Basic Anatomy - E-Book (3rd ed.). Elsevier. (This book is primarily used as an image source.)
3. Hansen, J. T. 2022. Netter’s clinical anatomy (Fifth Edition.). Elsevier.
(This book is primarily used as an image source.)
Additionally, anatomical images can be searched using Google Images. It is also recommended to explore three-dimensional models or videos on platforms such as YouTube, as understanding two-dimensional images can otherwise be challenging.
