Research Skills in Seminar Work at Early Childhood Education (5 cr)

Objectives (course unit)

Student
- Expands one’s knowledge in early childhood education through systematic knowledge acquisition
- can make a written thesis using research methods and topical research on early childhood education as references
- can present the entity of thesis and essential content orally using observation tools

Content (course unit)

- The topic of seminar work is related to early childhood education
- Familiarization with previous research on early childhood education
- The student focuses on a phenomenon of interest that is related to the work of a kindergarten teacher.
- Preparation of thesis from subject mentioned above and following to the written report instructions of thesis made in TAMK.
- Participation in data searching instruction arranged by library and learning to search topical sources of information from databases

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)

- the scope and definition of the research problem are unclear
- minor, one-sided use of source material - the topic is left to a general, superficial level
- descriptive reflection and scant connection with professionalism
- TAMK's instructions have been insufficiently followed in reporting.
- There is a lack of understanding in the text language mistakes.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)

- the scope of the research problem and its definition are clear
- relatively diverse use of source material
- rich and structured content - Reflecting on the key concepts of work in a professional context
- the report is good and written according to TAMK's instructions

Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)

- clear and justified definition of the research problem and definition of the objective
- versatile use of source material, dialogue between sources, comprehensive source material
- the content is thorough and of a consistent style

Assessment methods and criteria

Opintojakson suorittaminen edellyttää läsnäoloa kontaktiopetuksissa ja opintojaksoon liittyvien tehtävien tekeminen sovitussa aikataulussa. Poikkeustapauksista sovitaan erikseen opintojakson vastuuopettajan kanssa.

Pääpaino arvioinnissa on kirjallisessa osuudessa. Erityisen ansiokas suullinen esitys vaikuttaa kirjallisen esityksen arvosanaan korottavasti ja vastaavasti hyvin heikosti valmisteltu esitys arvosanaa alentavasti.
