Objectives

Student
• knows the sensor process and is able to apply sensor and measurement technology theory in mechanical engineering applications.
• knows the essential inaccuracies related to sensors and measurement technology and evaluates their effect in mechanical engineering applications.
• knows the operating principles of smart sensors and knows how to apply them in machine automation applications
• knows the technology related to machine vision and is able to use machine vision to create applications for mechanical engineering systems.
• understands the importance of information security and can identify threats related to information security and data protection. The student knows the importance of reliability, integrity and usability of information in mechanical engineering applications.
• knows the principles of functional safety and is able to define requirements related to machine safety and demonstrate their implementation in a mechanical engineering application.
• can use scenarios to evaluate the operation of the system in fault and disturbance situations and understand the importance of the shared infrastructure for the operation of the system.
• understands data communication and real-time requirements in mechanical engineering applications and is able to make data communication logical and physical.

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The student is able to choose some sensors for mechanical engineering applications and is able to evaluate some quantities related to measurement technology and their errors. The student knows the basics of machine vision in a general way and can, with assistance, prepare a machine vision application for a mechanical engineering application. The student knows the main goals of information security and data protection.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The student has a good command of the basics of sensor technology and knows how to independently and justifiably choose sensors for typical machine automation applications. Copes with typical tasks related to sensor technology independently. Can work actively and constructively in a group.

The student has an excellent command of the basics of sensor technology and knows how to independently and justifiably choose sensing for wider machine automation applications. Copes with challenging tasks related to sensor technology independently. Can work actively in a group and develop the group's activities.
