Objectives

After completing the course, the student knows how to design and dimension various steel structures and their connections.
The student knows how to take into account different stability phenomena (local and global) in dimensioning.
The student knows how to perform fire dimensioning and protection of steel structures.
The student learns to produce a data model suitable for the calculation of quantities, manufacturing and installation of the frame of the building with a special program intended for this purpose.
The student understands the principle and benefits of parametric modeling.
The student can transfer the modeled frame to the FEM program.

Content

Dimensioning with the limit state dimensioning method according to EC3: both the building frame assembly (=hall) and individual structural component examples.
Design in cross-section class 4 and design with respect to shear buckling.
Torsional design of steel structures.
Expanding the dimensioning knowledge of joints.
Fire protection dimensioning.
Modeling details and joints.
Reportage. Drawings.
FEM dimensioning.
Data transfer from data model to FEM model.

Prerequisites

5R00HC12 Steel Structures and Modelling or equivalent knowledge

Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2)

The structural calculations and plans for the design exercise of the steel structural unit done independently by the student have been presented for all the required structural parts, in general there are considerable deficiencies and/or errors in the calculations and there are deficiencies or inaccuracies in the plans.
The information model of the student's independent exercise work contains the most important construction parts and their connections, but there are deficiencies in the information content of the model and its documentation.

Assessment criteria, good (3-4)

The structural calculations and plans for the design exercise of the steel structural unit done independently by the student have been presented for all the required structural parts, there are some shortcomings and/or errors in the calculations and plans.
The data model of the student's independent exercise contains almost all building parts and their connections, but there are individual deficiencies in the data content of the model and its documentation.

Assessment criteria, excellent (5)

The structural calculations and plans for the design exercise of the steel structural unit done independently by the student have been presented for all the required structural parts. Only individual deficiencies and/or errors occur in the calculations and plans, which do not have a significant impact on the whole.
The data model of the student's independent practice work and the documents produced from it are suitable as initial data for manufacturing and construction. The student knows and knows how to document the qualitative requirements of the information model in terms of dimensions and information content. The student knows how to use the information model in dimensioning calculations.
