Objectives (course unit)

During the practical training, the student is guided to familiarise themselves with practical tasks in their field, apply their knowledge and skills in the workplace, and develop new expertise based on their assigned duties. In the Audiovisual Media degree programme, practical training is typically conducted in 2-3 pieces at various training places.

During the practical training, the student:
- gets acquainted with the principles and practices of the professional field
- applies acquired knowledge and skills in the workplace
- develops expertise according to the training objectives and tasks
- plans their professional career based on work experience
- builds their own network and contacts in the professional field
- observes and analyses workplace culture
- gathers ideas for their thesis

Content (course unit)

In the preparatory course "Coaching for a Practical Training," students familiarise themselves with TAMK's and the degree program's internship practices and the process of seeking internship positions.

The student seeks the training position independently. They establish the objectives for their internship with the guiding teacher, draft the internship agreement, and negotiate the details of the training with the employer. During the training, the student develops their skills, make observations, write a work diary, and document their tasks. At the end of the internship, the student prepares a report analysing their competence development and the practices of the workplace.

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

The student has worked on tasks related to their professional field, applying and deepening their expertise in the field. The student has worked on tasks approved by the internship supervisor for the agreed-upon number of hours and has submitted the required documents to the supervisor. Approval is granted after the training has been completed and reported to the supervising lecturer following the reporting guidelines. The work hours during the internship are converted into credits using the formula: 27 hours of work = 1 credit.
