After completing the course, the student:
• is aware of the effects of ionizing radiation on different human tissues and their radio sensitivity
• knows the EU guidelines and national legislation of safe medical use of ionizing radiation well as the regulations of Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority and can explain their main contents
• knows the radiation safety in medical and work-related exposure in general
• knows, how medical use of radiation is applied out of imaging department
Content (course unit)
• types of radiation and the biological effects to human tissues
• European Union guidelines of safe use of ionizing radiation, national legislation and regulations of Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority
• radiation safety procedures in medical and work-related exposure in general
• radiation safety procedures in use of radiation applied out of imaging department
Prerequisites (course unit)
• adequate knowledge in radiation physics and human physiology
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
• can name the biological effects to different human tissues and describe their radio sensitivity
• can name the concepts and general principles related to radiation protection
• can describe how the risks of the use of radiation can be minimized
• can describe the key content of the legislation and regulations concerning the use of the radiation
• can describe the radiation safety procedures in medical and work-related exposure
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
• can describe the biological effects to different human tissues and describe their radio sensitivity
• can describe the concepts and general principles related to radiation protection
• can reasonably describe how the risks of the use of radiation can be minimized
• can describe the key content of the legislation and regulations concerning the use of the radiation
• can reasonably describe the radiation safety procedures in medical and work-related exposure
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
• can widely explain the biological effects to different human tissues and describe their radio sensitivity
• can describe the concepts and general principles related to radiation protection and combine them with professional context
• can reasonably explain how the risks of the use of radiation can be minimized
• can describe the key content of the legislation and regulations concerning the use of the radiation
• can reasonably explain the radiation safety procedures in medical and work-related exposure
Location and time
Lukujärjestyksessä ilmoitettuna aikana ja paikoissa.
Säteilysuojelun ja säteilybiologian tunteja ei tallenneta ja lähitunneilla ei ole etäosallistumismahdollisuutta.
Exam schedules
Tentit ilmoitetaan orientaatiotunnilla.
Säteilybiologiasta oma tentti ja säteilysuojelusta oma tentti.
Annossuureista Moodletentti.
Tenttien lisäksi kaksi uusintaa molemmista osioista.
Korotustenttimahdollisuutta ei ole, koska opintojaksoon kuuluu harjoittelua. (Tutkintosääntö 27§)

0-5
Teaching methods
Luento-opetus, orientoivat harjoitukset/simulaatiot, itsenäinen opiskelu.
Natiiviröntgentutkimusten osuudella pakollinen läsnäolo. Poissaolo korvataan seuraavan vuosikurssin opintojaksolla.
Orientoivissa harjoituksissa/simulaatioissa pakollinen läsnäolo. Poissaolo korvataan seuraavan vuosikurssin opintojaksolla.
Annossuureiden osuudesta Moodletentti.
Säteilysuojelun ja säteilybiologian tunnilla vahva osallistumissuositus.
