Objectives (course unit)

In this course, you will learn to perform common x-ray examinations of the limbs and torso during basic clinical training. You will acquire the skills to assess the accuracy of x-ray images and identify anatomical structures in the images. In part II you will deepen your expertise and you will learn to perform common X-ray examinations of the limbs and torso, following the steps of the X-ray examination process.

The Student can, in basic training
• use radiological equipment and auxiliary equipment independently and safely
• use the key concepts related to x-ray examinations and x-ray projections
• perform the most common x-ray examinations of extremities and body according to the procedure of x-ray examination
• evaluate x-ray images according to criteria of a good x-ray picture and name the most common anatomical structures
• act according to radiation safety
• act aseptically
• act ergonomically
• work responsibly and perform given tasks carefully
• evaluate their own learning
• is interested in her/his own learning about x-ray examinations as well as the medical use of ionizing radiation and has a positive attitude towards developing continuously

Content (course unit)

• x-ray examinations of the skeleton and body
• the criteria of good x-ray image
• working radiation safely
• aseptic working
• ergonomic working, moving patients

Prerequisites (course unit)

• adequate knowledge of the anatomy of the skeleton and body
• adequate knowledge of radiation physics and imaging technique

Part II:
• adequate knowledge of radiography in x-raying
• Part I successfully completed

Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)

Pass
Part I:
• can position a patient for x-ray examinations of the skeleton and body
• can name the criteria of a good x-ray picture from x-ray pictures
• participates actively in all training classes

Part II:
• can carry out x-ray examinations of the skeleton and body according to the referral
• can guide a patient
• can name the criteria of a good x-ray image from x-ray images
• acts aseptically and ergonomically
• acts according to radiation safety
• participates actively in all training classes
