Objectives (course unit)

- is able to examine the patient according to the ABCDE protocol
- is able to inform the patient about the situation using the ISBAR method
- is able to act in emergencies with patients of different ages

Pass
The Student
- works actively in simulation in different roles
- is able to act in emergencies
- identify situations that threaten the patient's condition
- is able to find out the key issues about the patient's current situation
- is able to inform the patient about the condition and changes in the condition
Fail
The Student
- does not actively participate in simulations
- Emergency response endangers the patient's life
- does not recognize life-threatening situations in the patient's condition
- acts improperly in the situation
- cannot inform about issues related to the patient's condition.
Location and time
Mandatory Orientation 9.1.2025 is a pre-requisite to complete the course.
Simulation 1 will be arranged as a one-day workshop in collaboration with other nursing groups. Requires attending the whole day physically at taitokseskus (Skills Center).
Exam schedules
No exam.
Assessment methods and criteria
The student must be present at orientation and the skills lab.
Failure to comply with requirements to do with professional appearance and punctuality may result in the student being sent home from the simulation center or being asked to attend another session.
Evaluation is based on active attendance, compliance with rules, completion of pre-tasks and given assignments.

Learning materials
We recommend revising past course materials and other relevant sources to prepare for the day. The topics to be revised are:
Basics of Clinical Nursing
Intravenous Fluid Therapy
Medical and Surgical Nursing
Finnish language is incorporated in learning materials and tasks.
Complete the pre-tasks prior to attending the simulation day. The pre-tasks form the basis for your group work.

All sessions are mandatory for everyone throughout the workshops and simulations.
