Objectives (course unit)
The aim of the course is to increase knowledge and develop expertise in pharmacotherapy and first aid.
Pharmacotherapy:
After completing the course, the student:
• knows different medicinal forms and ways to administer them to a
patient
• can process medicines and can follow the dosage instruction
• knows the storage and disposal of medicines
• can administer medicine p.o, s.c, i.m.
• knows how medicine is given per rectum and as an inhalation
• knows the factors related to safety in pharmacotherapy, including the treatment of drug reactions
• is familiar with Kanta
Medical calculations:
After completing the course, the student:
• knows how to calculate medical calculations correctly
First aid:
After completing the course, the student:
• can act on his/her own initiative in different emergency situations in the most common illness and emergency situations taking into consideration safety and the need of mental first aid
Content (course unit)
Pharmacotherapy and medical calculation
• basics of pharmacotherapy, administration of pharmaceuticals and drug safety
• handling, storage and disposal of medicines
• medical calculation
First aid
• recognition of emergency situations and call for help
• first aid for a person who is unconscious or suffering from a fit
• basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation and CPR-D (defibrillation) of children or adults
• first aid of trauma patients
• mental first aid
Assessment criteria, satisfactory (1-2) (course unit)
• can describe the storage and disposal of medicines
• can name the ways of administration of the most ordinary medicines, the most common purposes of use and side effects
• can name the ways of treatment of drug reactions
• can administer medicine p.o, s.c, i.m.
• can calculate medical calculations correctly
• can describe how first aid is given in the most common illness and emergency situations paying attention to the need for safety and mental first aid
• has passed the resuscitation demonstration acceptably
Assessment criteria, good (3-4) (course unit)
• can explain the storage and disposal of medicines
• can explain the ways of administration of the most ordinary medicines, the most common purposes of use and side effects
• can explain the ways of treatment of drug reactions
• can administer medicine p.o, s.c, i.m.
• can calculate medical calculations correctly
• can reasonably explain how first aid is given in the most common illness and emergency situations paying attention to the need for safety and mental first aid
• can give first aid in the most common illness and emergency situations paying attention to the need for safety and mental first aid
• has passed the resuscitation demonstration acceptably
Assessment criteria, excellent (5) (course unit)
• can widely explain the storage and disposal of medicines
• can reasonably explain the ways of administration of the most ordinary medicines, the most common purposes of use and side effects
• can reasonably explain how the most common drug reactions are treated
• can administer medicine p.o, s.c, i.m.
• can calculate medical calculations correctly
• can apply his/her knowledge about first aid versatilely in illness and emergency situations and can examine the first aid given from different perspectives and can give first aid justifying his/her actions
• pays attention to safety and mental first aid when giving first aid
• has passed the resuscitation demonstration acceptably
Assessment criteria, pass/fail (course unit)
Failed
The course is failed if the student hasn't passed the resuscitation demonstration acceptably.
